Financial planning for freelancers & contractors · Phuket

APIWorks Financial Planning works the money side of going it alone.

Advisory consultations and planning engagements that turn irregular freelance income into a budget you can trust, a tax position you can defend, and a retirement plan that actually compounds.

Where it breaks down

The four places freelance finances quietly leak.

Most independent workers we see are not reckless with money. They are busy, paid irregularly, and stitched together from two or three clients — which is exactly where personal finance advice built for salaried employees stops fitting.

  1. Lumpy income, fixed bills

A THB 80,000 month followed by a THB 25,000 month is not a budgeting failure. It is a cash-flow problem that needs a rolling buffer, not a monthly spreadsheet.

  2. VAT registration timing

Cross the THB 1.8 million annual threshold and you must register for VAT in Thailand. Miss it, and you carry interest and penalties on tax already spent.

  3. No employer, no provident fund

Without a mandatory contribution, retirement saving is whatever is left over — and after a slow quarter, nothing is left over.

  4. Mixed personal and business cash

One account for client payments, rent and dinner out makes year-end reconciliation expensive and the tax filing late.

How we sell it

Advisory consultations and planning engagements, not a subscription.

You can start with a single consultation to pressure-test a decision, or commit to a planning engagement that builds a full financial picture over a few weeks. There is no app to log into and no monthly fee.

  • Starter consultation — a 60-minute session on one question, usually VAT registration, invoicing structure or a contract review. From THB 1,500.
  • Full planning engagement — three sessions plus a written plan covering cash flow, tax, insurance gaps and retirement. From THB 9,000.
  • Annual review retainer — a single yearly check-in to re-tune the plan when a rate changes or a new client comes on board. From THB 3,500 per year.

Who this is for

Built for independent earners in Thailand — and honestly, not for everyone.

If your income arrives in lumps and no one is auto-deducting your retirement for you, this is your kind of planning.

A good fit if you are

  • A freelancer or contractor billing THB 50,000+ most months
  • A sole trader registered or about to register for VAT in Thailand
  • One-person agency owner juggling two to five clients
  • Returning to Thailand mid-career and rebuilding a local financial base

Probably not a fit if you are

  • Looking for guaranteed investment returns or stock tips
  • A registered company with employees and payroll complexity
  • Seeking tax structures that push the edge of what the RD allows
  • After a one-off loan or insurance product sale

How an engagement runs

Four steps, no surprises about cost.

  1. Free scoping call

A short, no-charge conversation to check the fit and agree which engagement suits you, before any invoice is raised.

  2. Secure document drop

Upload a year of bank statements and client invoices via our same-domain secure upload — never over email, so the data stays controlled.

  3. Structured working sessions

One or three booked sessions, each with an agenda sent ahead so the hour is spent on decisions, not orientation.

  4. Written plan and walk-through

You finish with a written plan, dated and yours to keep, plus a half-hour handover call to walk through it. Anything further is the annual review — never an unexpected invoice.

Questions we hear

Straight answers before you book.

Are you a licensed financial advisor?

We are financial planning advisers for independent earners, not brokers. We do not trade on your behalf, hold your money, or market investment products. If a decision needs a licensed licensee, we point you to one rather than improvise.

Can you file my Thai tax return for me?

The engagement prepares the figures and the structure, and walks you through the filing. Submission to the Revenue Department is done in your name; we do not act as your tax representative.

What if my income is mostly overseas?

That is common among contractors here. The scoping call checks whether your situation is within scope; if it needs a cross-border tax specialist, we tell you upfront rather than halfway through.

Do you take a percentage of my assets?

No. Engagements are fixed-fee and quoted before work starts. We never take a share of your money, your investments or your insurance premiums.
